What is a Robbery? The wrongful taking of personal property in the possession of another, from his person or immediate presence, and against his will, accomplished by means of force or fear.

Reduce robbery victimization by:

INDIVIDUAL WAYS TO REDUCE YOUR CHANCE
 OF BEING A VICTIM.

Be aware of your surroundings

  • If something does not look right take a second look.
    Don’t go to an area that alarms you or don’t park your car. Unknown people loitering

  • Drive around the lot and observe unusual behavior. Robbers will tip their hand at some point.

  • Call 911 if something is out of place. Strangers loitering or hiding behind vehicles.

  • Make eye contact to passerby’s and acknowledge their presence.

Parking your vehicle leaves you vulnerable.

  • At a business park as close to others as possible to avoid isolation.

  • Do not linger, talking on cell phones, lighting a cigarette. GET IN GET OUT GET GONE.

  • Have a plan to place items in the trunk or passenger compartment of vehicle.

  • Avoid request from strangers for directions, cigarettes, and change.
     

Be aware that your purse is an advertisement for a robbery.

  • Do not take purse when shopping unless necessary.

  • Use a credit/debit card for transactions. If these are lost they can be tracked to a suspect.

Do not flash lots of cash.

  • Bandits watch you at convenience stores, casino, clubs and bars.

  •  Large Casino winnings should be taken in a Cashiers Check.

Be familiar with your Cellular telephone.

  • One button for emergency 911 call

  • If confronted push the button and give location if you can.

BUSINESS WAYS TO REDUCE ROBBERY VICTIMIZATION.

Bank Drops are when your employees are vulnerable.

  • Always have two people to make the drop. This reduces employee theft too.

  • Make Drops during the day when possible.

  • Avoid isolation at the night deposit. Drive around and observe the area before the drop.

Know and use technology for better surveillance systems.

  • Check to make sure system is operational

  • VHS tapes are in order and working every day.

  • Increase coverage to include the outside perimeter of your business.

  • Attempt to make cameras at eye level. This will reduce the use of hoods to conceal face.

Close with two employees. Bandits know when you close and hope to score larger at this time.

Greet customers and have them remove hats, hoods and sunglasses.
