What are the requirements for your department?

Go to the recruiting page for the requirements.

How do I find out if you have someone in custody.....?
How do I get someone out of jail...?

The Tulsa Police Department does not operate any jail.  Anyone arrested by TPD is booked into the Tulsa City-County Jail. You can check inmate status online.  Be aware that you are leaving the web site controlled by the Tulsa Police Department..

Why is my name showing up on your warrants page? I have taken care of the warrants.

The Tulsa Police Department does not have the legal authority to issue or recall warrants.  By law, police officers can only serve warrants.  Warrants are issued and recalled by a judge.  When the court recalls the warrant it will no longer appear on the web page.

The web warrants page is not manually updated.  The data updates once a day from the police department records system.  We cannot remove an individual name or warrant from the web page;  data is changed in the records system as arrests are made or recall notices processed.

Is there a  law against......?

Tulsa's Revised Ordinances
are on line at the City of Tulsa Web Site.  The Penal Code is Title 27;  the Traffic Code is Title 37.

Can I ride with a Tulsa Police Officer?

Yes, under certain conditions listed on the Ride Along page.  You must fill out a Ride Along agreement and obtain permission.

Why isn't sex offender information listed for other cities or towns?

This web site is owned and maintained by the Tulsa Police Department.  The department is legally responsible for registering sex offenders who live within the corporate limits of the City of  Tulsa. The Tulsa Police Department has no control over whether other agencies choose to display their registered sex offenders on the internet.

Oklahoma law requires all law enforcement agencies to register and maintain information on sex offenders.  The agencies must provide that information to the public on request.  They do not have to provide it on the internet.

Please do not contact the Tulsa Police Department for requests on sex offenders living in other jurisdictions instead you might try this internet site http://www.nsopr.gov/ for other city or state information.

Since you list sex offenders on your web site, why don't you expand the list to include people arrested for drunk driving?

Providing sex offender information is based on a very specific Oklahoma State Statute that provides for the release of certain information to the public and only convicted sex offenders are displayed.  Release of general arrest information is very complicated and is governed by department policy which is based on the Oklahoma Open Records Act and other state and federal regulations.  Department policy states, "Information relating to the facts and circumstances of arrest may be released only during the time period reasonably contemporaneous with an arrest."

Is there a national database of sex offenders?

Yes. http://www.nsopr.gov/ maintains a list of departments that provide sex offender information online.

We are moving to Tulsa?  Can we obtain crime statistics for a particular neighborhood?

The Crime Analysis Unit provides interactive maps including crime maps at Map Central site to provide a visual representation of  neighborhood crime rates.  Before coming to any conclusions, please read the page on  How to Evaluate Crime Data.

Why can't I use email to report a missing person?

A missing person requires a police report.  The Tulsa Police Department does not use email (or for that matter a normal letter) as a substitute for filling out a report.  A police report allows the department to obtain necessary information. You may call dispatch and have an officer sent to your location to fill out a report.

Why can't you investigate a crime I report to you by email?

The Tulsa Police Department does not accept police reports by email.  An officer can be sent to your location to take a report 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Some reports can be filled out online.

Can I report a crime online?

Some types of crime can be reported online.  The Online Reporting page explains how to use and submit the form.

Can you provide public programs to groups?

The Community Education Unit coordinates group programs.  You may request a program online.

Can I request a background check on the web site?

The Tulsa Police Department does not provide background checks or criminal history information.  In compliance with the Open Records Act, certain information collected by the department is available.  The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation maintains conviction information.

Who designed your web site and how do you keep it updated?

The TPD Online Unit designed the site and maintains it on servers provided by and maintained by the City of Tulsa Telecommunications Department.  Advanced technical assistance is provided by Darren Fritz and Brian Bales of Telecomm. Material is provided by appropriate units within the department.
